Koalas in Danger of Extinction

Koalas:  To Be or Not to Be?

Did you know that koalas are becoming extinct? Well if you didn’t, look no further because I have some info (facts) about this little cute animal just for you. It’s pretty obvious that koalas are cute and most people like them, but it’s sad how the people kill them and sell their fur. It all started in the 1900’s when more than one million koalas were hunted and killed for their fur. If I were to be alive in this era, I would be so sad and would probably cry myself to sleep every night. Basically the Koalas in southern Australia were becoming extinct during this era. Recently many koalas have been migrating to Kangaroo Island but they then re-migrated back to their home land. Koalas are suffering from the effects of habitat destruction, domestic dog attacks, bush fires and road accidents. The Australian Koala foundation estimates that there are less than 100,000 koalas left in the wild, possibly as few as 43,000. There are four states where koalas are currently in the wild; Queensland, New south wales, Victoria and South Australia. In 2000 Koalas were listed as “threatened” under the United States Endangered Species Act. This is considered one category below “endangered”.

We must save them now or forever be endangering our minds.  How can we let this happen to such a cute, furry animal?
